Oroville Hospital will be having an Open House featuring the new da Vinci Si surgical system on Saturday, June 1st from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Oroville Sports Club.
For years many people in our community would make the drive to Sacramento or Davis for robotic-assisted surgery. In fact, over the past 10 years, tens of thousands of procedures have been performed using da Vinci technology including: general, urologic, gynecologic, thoracoscopic, and thoracoscopically-assisted cardiac surgery. The da Vinci was originally introduced in 1999 by Intuitive Surgical, Inc. In 2000, the da Vinci Surgical System became the first robotic surgical platform commercially available in the United States to be cleared by the FDA for use in general laparoscopic surgery. Today, there are 2,585 da Vinci Systems installed in 2,025 hospitals worldwide.
Now for the good news. Oroville Hospital recently acquired the most advanced robotic system, the da Vinci Si Surgical System. This technology gives surgeons the most powerful and precise tools available to perform less invasive procedures. For example, the da Vinci Si provides surgeons with enhanced 3-D, high definition vision with up to 10x magnification. This provides higher accuracy compared to the 2D vision that was used when performing conventional laparoscopic surgery. Also, the surgeon has greater dexterity and precision far greater than even the human hand. For patients, the benefits may include less scarring and tissue damage, faster healing and reduced hospitalization.
Oroville Hospital requires its highly skilled surgeons to participate in rigorous training in order to qualify to operate the da Vinci Si. When the surgeons perform their initial surgeries, they are proctored by expert da Vinci surgeons from all over the country.
da Vinci’s advanced level of technology takes surgery beyond the limits of the human hand. This state-of-the-art technology compliments Oroville Hospital’s goal of extending minimally invasive surgery to the broadest possible base of patients. Oroville Hospital will be using it in three different specialties including general surgery, gynecology, and urology.
Oroville Hospital’s commitment to innovation and providing the best patient care possible is apparent in the recent acquisition of the da Vinci Si system, which is the most modern robotic system north of Sacramento. The public has a unique opportunity to meet the surgeons and see the robot on Saturday, June 1st from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Oroville Sports Club.
